Day 4 – BURN: Burn Intervals & Ab Burner
2009
For some reason I was under the impression these non-Circuit workouts would be easy.. a light break between the heavy lifting. I was partially correct — no heavy lifting — but I was WAY off thinking it would be easy. Basically, the workout is 45 minutes long and each interval through most of the entire time period last 2 minutes. The purpose of this workout is Muscle Endurance so it is smaller weights at a higher frequency. But wait, there’s more! You alternate between muscle work and cardio…and this is INTENSE cardio, you’re moving your arms and legs to bring your heart rate to it’s Aerobic Rate and after two minutes you switch to the small weights (most of the time) to exercise that muscle. With the frequency and the HR pumping, they may as well have been 3 times heavier! The moves are pretty fun, to be honest… there were times I had to stop early (not that I wanted to, I HAD to) or I endured my muscles, especially my quads or triceps, screaming at me begging for me to stop, hehe.. but two minutes can seem like a long time, you just have to remind yourself it isn’t! One tough move was a basketball shoot.. You start in a lunge with your right foot back, then you bring your knee up to “belly button height” while shooting your right arm up like throwing a basketball.. Oh, the burn! There was also a move where you start standing up, drop to a squat with your hands on the floor, jump your legs back behind you like a push-up, then you pull your legs back in and up into the squat and then stand again. My glutes are already starting to feel sore! I cannot wait to get better at this workout, you definitely feel like an athlete in training.
Ab Burner was somewhat traditional ab work, a 10 minutes workout. My abs need alot of work, and given how good they have felt after 3 weeks of Turbo Jam, I look forward to the results from this! Some of the moves I had to follow the “beginner” example and I cannot keep my back flat on the ground, my lower back wants to arch slightly… I think this will also improve in (short) time!
For breakfast I had a chocolate Shakeology.. much better than the Greenberry. I used Chris’ REAL blender so it seemed like such a huge amount because of all the air! There was no peanut butter so I just mixed it with 1/2c soy, 2/3c water, 1/2 banana and about a cup of ice cubes. I have two servings left, but I have Home Direct started so I should receive my first month’s shipment next week. For lunch I met with one of my clients that I subcontract web design for. She asked me what I have been up to and it turned into a 20 minute infomercial about my obsession with Beachbody and Chalene Johnson! Isn’t it funny how when you get really excited about something, you want to share it with everyone? That’s how I feel about this, like a schoolgirl! Anyway, I had a salad and half sandwich special — 2oz of creamy garlic dressing and the sandwich had provolone cheese, salami and turkey. Not sure what’s on the menu for dinner yet :)
PS I say “BURN Burn” because I want to lead each title with the phase I’m in (Burn) for an at-a-glance reference :B
