Maximum Support Braces & Upper Body Building!

First off, my iSight camera is broken on my MacBook Pro :(  I’ve tried all kinds of troubleshooting — to the point Chris came in and created a 30 gig partition to install a fresh copy of Snow Leopard, but to no avail…so it most likely is a hardware issue.  No Apple Store in town so roadtrip, here I come.

My upper body has been SO SORE.  I have been working hard with Chalene Johnson via Chalean Extreme LEAN circuits.  I have been wearing my pair of maximum support Mueller knee braces (with metal hinges on the sides) and it has been GREAT for the low impact lunges, squats and deadlifts.  Tomorrow (3/2) is my orthopedic doctor’s appointment so hopefully he will enlighten me as to what exactly is going on with my knee, and hopefully that will let me plan my workout future!  My thoughts are most likely I need to give my knees a break from the high-impact of Insanity for at least another month.  I would like to start P90X Monday, and work in restarting Insanity while I’m still doing P90X (approximately P90X Day 30).  Does that sound crazy?!  I’m ready for doubles!

Well, I hope my knees are :)

First: OMG I WANT YOUR ARMS. I’ll have them, just have to keep BRINGING IT!

Second: Hope all goes well with the doctor! Hopefully it’s something like a sprain and will just need time to heal.

Third: Are you worried about Plyo on the knee? It’s a LOT OF JUMPING OMG!

Fourth: Where is your nearest Apple Store?

Fifth: JUST IN CASE THERE WASN’T ENOUGH CAPSLOCK! ;)

Looks like it’s not too serious, yay! He said the “plica” in that knee is still inflamed from the injury, that’s the weird popping movement when I bend the knee.. He says the “pain” is likely from the prior condition. He prescribed me an anti inflammatory to take for 30 days and follow-up. In the mean time, avoid impact style moves that can cause pain.. so I asked him if it counts if I’m wearing the knee braces and there’s no pain, he didn’t sound enthused about lunges (but it seemed he thought jumping into lunges). So I’ll continue with Chalean weight resistance and start P90X a week early, and if I’m clear at the beginning of April, restart Insanity alongside P90X and attempt doubles or a hybrid.

Plyo I’ll have to take it easy and do some kind of modified.. I don’t know how P90X shows modified, so I’ll have to pop in the DVD tonight and see.. but in Chalean they basically just don’t bend the knee as deep, or don’t do any impact.

Cammie Lusk completed P90X from her WHEELCHAIR, so I know I can do it :) Only problem with Insanity is it is dependent on jumping… like 80% of it is impact to the knees (which is why there’s constantly text warning you to take it easy, soft knees, etc.)

On a lot of the Plyo moves you can either not jump, or step to turn. I still don’t have the endurance to jump every time they do so on the ones where they squat, jump to turn, squat, jump to turn, I start out doing that but end up having to squat, step to turn.

When I did it last night I was thinking about you and I think it could be modified pretty easily so that you can do it. Shoot, one of the guys doing it only has ONE LEG so I think you’ll be okay!
