Nice site! You put a lot of time and effort into working out and sharing it on the web. Question….Calorie wise, how does the Hit/Fire compare to the Insanity workout and which one is harder on your knees. Thx..

    Hi Ben!

So far I am burning more calories than Insanity. There are a couple of factors that make this happen (that I have observed):

    1. TurboFire is nonstop cardio. In Insanity you warm-up, then you stretch, then you exercise, then you stretch/cooldown. TurboFire you warmup and exercise and cooldown. Stretch is a separate 10 minute workout you can follow-up with (aside from the full stretch workout of course). So, I end up burning more calories the whole way through because my heart rate doesn’t have the opportunity to level out from stretches.

    2. Insanity pushes you to your limit! When I was doing Insanity, especially at the beginning, I could NOT finish the entire increment for some time! I got better with my HR monitor (if I was pushing closer to my upper threshold I’d back off) but the design of TF lets me last longer through the entire workout — but don’t get me wrong there are definitely times in TF where I have to kind of motion through the moves because I need a breather! hehe.

TurboFire has had little impact on my knees whereas Insanity, especially month 2 did. There are alot of jumps in Insanity to strengthen your core and legs, and there’s not really room for modify (or didn’t seem to be at the time). TurboFire works my legs ALOT, but during the jumps I look at one of the three girls on stage (Ali) that does the “low impact” workout. So rather than doing the tuck-jump I usually will squat low and hook/knee each side. It works for me, and I’m still engaging my core and quads to do it!

Without adding a sculpting class, Insanity works your upper body muscles with shoulder presses (V pushups), lots of pushups, etc. TurboFire is mostly up on your feet with some burpees and as mentioned, a separate sculpting class.

    Hey Julie!

Cool Site….my question is: which is better to lose more belly and thighs fat Insanity or Chalean Extreme?

    • Julie says:

Hi Ruby! This is not an uncommon question but all I can say is you cannot target fat! For each person it is different but in general, where ever fat goes first, it leaves last. Insanity is going to burn lots of calories through cardio and build some muscle using your body weight for resistance. Chalean Extreme uses weight training 3x a week to build overall muscle and 2x a week with cardio, endurance, and stretching. So cardio will deliver you with immediate calories burned, but muscle building will give you long-term calories burning even when you’re not actually working out because it increases your metabolism.

So ultimately, which program do you find appeals to you most? Both programs will help you lose fat all over, as long as you stick to the program every day…and the easiest way to do that is to enjoy what you’re doing!
